All the Upcoming Sherlock Holmes Movies and Shows Confirmed So Far

Sherlock Holmes remains one of the most enduring and beloved characters in all of fiction, and more than a century after his debut, the world’s greatest detective continues to inspire new adaptations. With the success of everything from Sherlock to Enola Holmes, studios are far from done with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s brilliant (and often brooding) creation.

From reboots to spinoffs, here’s a roundup of all the confirmed upcoming Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows you should keep an eye on.

Sherlock Holmes 3 (Starring Robert Downey Jr.)

Yes, it’s still happening—at least according to recent reports. Sherlock Holmes 3 will once again star Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Originally slated for release years ago, the film has faced numerous delays. While Guy Ritchie, who directed the first two films, is not currently attached, the project remains in development at Warner Bros., with hopes of exploring a more mature version of the duo.

Status: In active development

Expected Release: TBD

HBO Max Sherlock Holmes Spinoff Series (RDJ Universe)

As part of expanding the RDJ-led Holmes universe, HBO Max is developing two spinoff series connected to the world established in the Guy Ritchie films. These shows will reportedly focus on new characters introduced in Sherlock Holmes 3, and may expand the franchise into a shared universe of Victorian mystery and crime.

Status: Early development

Platform: HBO Max

Enola Holmes 3 (In Talks)

While not strictly Sherlock-centric, the Enola Holmes series has carved out a strong space in the Holmes-verse. With Millie Bobby Brown returning as Enola and Henry Cavill reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes, Netflix is reportedly in early talks for a third film following the success of the first two.

Status: Not officially confirmed, but highly likely

Platform: Netflix

Sherlock Junior (Animated Film)

An animated take on the Holmes mythology, Sherlock Junior will follow a younger version of Sherlock Holmes navigating mysteries in a steampunk-style London. While not directly adapted from Doyle’s work, it promises to bring Holmes to a new generation with fresh visuals and family-friendly storytelling.

Status: Confirmed

Studio: Netflix

Release Date: TBD

New BBC Holmes Project?

Rumors continue to circulate about a possible follow-up or spiritual successor to the BBC’s Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Though no project has been confirmed, creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have hinted that they’re open to revisiting the characters—if the timing (and story) is right.

Status: No official project confirmed

Possibility: Moderate
